CHICAGO — City of New Orleans trains are set to resume daily in both directions on Monday, July 13, after disruptions of more than two weeks that included a sporadic return this week.
A large number of damaged wheelsets sidelined all three of the City’s Superliner consists as of June 27 [see “Amtrak cancels City of New Orleans …,” Trains.com, July 3, 2026]. Amtrak and host railroad Canadian National have not indicated that they have determined a cause.
Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari said that most of the wheel replacements were taking place at Amtrak’s recently modernized New Orleans maintenance facility. Many of the additional wheels needed are being trucked there…
