Memorial services for late New Orleans Civil Rights leader Jerome ‘Big Duck’ Smith announced

New Orleans will lay Jerome “Big Duck” Smith to rest next month with two days of memorial services celebrating the local Civil Rights leader’s storied life and relentless work in the name of racial equality.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend Smith’s visitation on Friday, Sept. 11, at Gallier Hall, 545 St Charles Ave., from 4 to 8 p.m.

Relatives and friends are also invited to attend a celebration of life the following day, Saturday, Sept. 12, at Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts, 1419 Basin St. Visitation will start at 8 a.m., followed by the service at 10 a.m…
