New consumer protection law in effect for Louisiana utility customers

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Louisianans overcharged by utilities now have a new law on their side.

Act 553 took effect recently and provides consumer protections for water, gas and electric utility customers across the state.

It mandates that water, gas and electric utility providers that are regulated by the Louisiana Public Service Commission or a local governmental subdivision that have overcharged a customer or customers reimburse them in full within 90 days after the overcharge is discovered or reasonably should have been discovered…
