Fans of Hot Stuff (7507 Maple St.), the meat-and-three restaurant with exceptionally flavorful Southern cooking, have just a few more weeks to get their fix of stewed chicken, red beans and rice, fried pork chops and bananas Foster pudding.
The restaurant near the Uptown universities will close around the start of October, confirmed co-owner Mason Hereford. The restaurant, which he opened with chef Nate Barfield in May 2024, wasn’t doing enough business to continue.
However, plans are developing that could put some of Hot Stuff’s way with comfort food back in rotation elsewhere. Hereford said he wasn’t ready to get into more details about those plans yet, but he suggested in a social media post that there’s work underway “to bring new life and a new home to Nate’s recipes.”
“We’re looking at this as an opportunity rather than just a transition or shutter,” Hereford wrote. “Nate and I have decided that we have a lot more fun and a lot less stress working together rather than separately, and this is what we both want. It’s all gonna be great.”…
