The City of New Orleans must pay the Orleans Parish School Board $6 million by June 2027, according to a settlement that puts an end to years of fighting between the two entities over fees charged for property tax collections.
But some of the cash will come with strings, according to the deal approved by the City Council last week and by the school board in August. Of the $6 million, any city cash that will come from bond proceeds must be used for capital improvements to district-owned school buildings that will be used for more than a decade.
