Mayor Helena Moreno says New Orleans facing $100 million shortfall in 2027 budget

New Orleans Mayor Helena Moreno said Thursday the city is facing a $100 million budget shortfall as her administration prepares a 2027 budget proposal, a daunting gap that officials must close with new revenue or deep cuts — or both.

“The cuts that we have to face are substantial,” Moreno told the crowd of about 100 people at a town hall meeting at Christian Brothers School on Canal Street. “Every single dollar will matter.”

Moreno is expected to propose her budget in a presentation to City Council on Sept. 22. While the adopted budget must be balanced, the $100 million figure represents the difference between what the administration wants to spend and the revenue it has available…
