Mayor Helena Moreno floats new millage proposal of $26M; administration says cuts possible

Mayor Helena Moreno will seek to hike property taxes and generate only $26 million, far less than the $42 million the administration previously floated, a city official said on Friday after days of public criticism about the city’s plans.

Andrew Tuozzolo, special counsel to Moreno, said the administration would seek to “roll forward” only the millages tied to the city’s general fund, instead of all of the millages the city controls.

To close a 2027 budget gap Moreno on Thursday pegged at $100 million, the administration will also make cuts to city departments that will cover about two-thirds of that amount. The other third is tied to existing services and programs the city needs new revenue to fund…
