NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — For World Gorilla Day, Audubon Zoo is celebrating its critically endangered gorillas on Saturday, Sept. 19.
From 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., events and activities will take place near the gorilla habitat.
Officials said the event will include special chats with animal care professionals, gorilla photo ops, collectable trading cards and more.
Additionally, animal care volunteers created “gorilla made” walking sticks, photo frames and key chains from the branches, also referred to as “browse,” that the gorillas chew on as a source of enrichment. These limited items are available for purchase during the day’s activities.
At the Audubon Zoo, there are four Western lowland gorillas named Okpara, Alafia, Tumani and Praline. This particular species of gorillas is critically endangered due to poaching, habitat loss and disease, officials said…
