NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Just yards from where criminal suspects await trial and only a few floors away from the Orleans Parish Jail, families bonded by sudden tragedy gather each month, searching for things the justice system often lacks: support, understanding and empathy.
The monthly victim support meetings bring together advocates, law enforcement and support services on the third Wednesday of each month to offer a vital lifeline to survivors navigating the aftermath of violent crime. Meetings are held on the fourth floor of the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office at 2800 Perdido St.
For many attendees, the grief is raw and enduring. One mother recalled the loss of her 20-year-old son, who she said was shot 15 times across the chest in 2025…
