NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – At Lafayette Cemetery No. 1, death and decay don’t necessarily have to go together, not if Nick Black can do something about it.
“Probably one of the most rewarding parts of the job is seeing people’s faces once a tomb that they’ve had in their family for, in some cases, 180 years, is restored,” said Nick Black, owner of NOLA Cemetery Renewal.
Black is a New Orleans native and has spent the last decade restoring mausoleums, headstones and tombs in many of the city’s historic cemeteries, including Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 in the Lower Garden District. Black says the work is all about honoring the deceased and their living loved ones…
