This cozy Marigny café is expanding to Magazine Street in a serendipitous homecoming

Long before she opened her own café in New Orleans, Elizabeth Hess was a barista and manager at HEY Café on Magazine Street, where coffee was served in a shotgun house wedged eight inches between Casamento’s Restaurant and Ms. Mae’s.

Hess is returning to that Uptown building six years later after the latest tenant, Undergrowth Coffee, closed earlier this year. The homecoming also marks a moment of growth: Hess is opening a second location for Honey’s, the Marigny café she founded in 2022.

Honey’s second location is expected to open the first week of October, serving coffee, homemade pastries and cakes and seasonal specials. Hess said she was exploring options in several neighborhoods when she was offered the lease for the Uptown space where she once worked. Hess said “it was a dream come true and felt very serendipitous.”…
