According to the City of New Orleans, Sewerage and Water Board employees and contractors have been at the Low Barrier Shelter since Saturday to address water issues.
Dr. Jennifer Avegno, the Deputy Mayor of Health and Human Services, said in a statement that, “we have remained in constant contact with shelter leadership and provided portable restrooms, water and other mitigating measures to protect the health and safety of residents and staff. We hope to have the water issue resolved soon and are actively developing contingency plans should the outage be prolonged. The health and safety of shelter residents and staff remains our highest priority.”
