State police list perjury, jury tampering among possible crimes in Murrill indictment probe

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – An attorney for Louisiana State Police wrote in a recently unsealed court record the agency “reasonably (believed)” a crime may have been committed involving grand jury proceedings that led to state Attorney General Liz Murrill’s indictment in July.

In August, the attorney for Louisiana State Police wrote the update in state police’s request to the state Supreme Court to appoint a special prosecutor in the case. In the record unsealed last week, the attorney for state police wrote the agency needed a “conflict free prosecutor” to assist in the agency’s investigation into how the now-dismissed indictment against Murrill came to be.

“Publicly available materials — including pleadings, court minutes, witness statements, press conferences and statements by other various stakeholders —caused Louisiana State Police to reasonably believe that violations of criminal law may have occurred in connection with the grand jury proceedings,” the attorney wrote in the record…
