New Orleans artist Abby Cantrell spends much of her free time on the Tchefuncte River in Madisonville and at the Mandeville lakefront, inspiring the acrylic painting she created as the poster for the 35th Annual Wooden Boat Festival.
Cantrell’s artwork was unveiled during a reception Sept. 17 at Maritime Museum Louisiana in Madisonville. Reflecting this year’s festival theme, “United by the Waters,” the painting features a boat named Unity, along with the Madisonville bridge and lighthouse in the background.
“Two things immediately stood out and took center stage in Abby’s painting — the beautiful water and the boat, fittingly named Unity. By placing Unity on the water, she cleverly captured the idea that there truly is unity in the water, beautifully aligning with this year’s theme,” MMLA special events coordinator Andrea Moses said…
