HBO’s new true crime doc explores chilling Pet Cemetery Murders

A new HBO documentary series will be delving into a 1985 murder case focusing on Dorothy Lou Thompson, who owned the Azalea Original Pet Cemetery in the rural bayou outside New Orleans, Louisiana. Three-episode series The Pet Cemetery Murders: A Ghost Story will premiere next month and looks at the sinister case, reports the Mirror.

Pet cemetery owner Thompson went missing and was later found shackled in chains in the Mississippi River. To add another layer of intrigue, Thompson’s pet cemetery was rumored to have been built on cursed land.

The rumors weren’t unusual for New Orleans, which is steeped in supernatural lore and traditions. The discovery of Thompson’s remains threw up questions about her past and the people she knew.

However, the case went cold and it would only be decades later that it was finally solved and her killer brought to justice. It was only in 2009 Detective John Doran reopened the investigation as he followed up on old leads and dug into the case files…
