GULF COAST — The first look at hurricane-specific models for future Isaias shows a faster system than earlier guidance suggested. All of the models bring landfall on October 9 or very early on October 10, which would shorten preparation time along the northern Gulf Coast. The possible landfall zone stretches from New Orleans to Pensacola, though more model members currently favor a westward track. Intensity peaks range from Category 1 to Category 3 before rapid weakening is shown ahead of landfall.
Faster Timing Shortens Preparation Window
Each of the hurricane models now shows the system arriving sooner than previously expected. Landfall is shown on October 9 or in the very early hours of October 10.
That faster timing means residents along the Gulf Coast may have less time to prepare. Making plans early in the week is becoming increasingly important as the system approaches.
Landfall Zone Stretches From New Orleans to Pensacola
The possible landfall area covers a wide stretch of the northern Gulf Coast. Model solutions range from southeast Louisiana near New Orleans to the western Florida Panhandle near Pensacola.
More model members currently favor a westward track toward Louisiana. Coastal Mississippi and Alabama remain within the possible range and should continue to monitor updates closely.
HWRF and HMON Show Stronger Scenarios
The HWRF model shows one of the stronger scenarios, with a well-defined center near the southeast Louisiana coast. Heavy rain bands in that run wrap around the center and spread across Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama…
