The 50 Best Bars, sponsored by Perrier, released its annual awards list on Wednesday, October 7, in Milan, Italy, showcasing a wonderful global perspective, including notable cocktail dens that span five continents, plenty of first-time winners, and one slightly nagging issue.
That grievance? The United States was only represented by bars in New York, with the East Village’s Schmuck debuting at No. 11. Even as a proud resident, I believe the list has always centered its U.S. presence on New York City, often to the detriment of other cities.
