A Jefferson Parish judge on Thursday (Oct. 8) sentenced Dekias Stevenson to life in prison for his conviction of killing a man while attempting to rob him of marijuana.
Stevenson lured Davis to his apartment complex in the 1000 block of Manhattan Boulevard on Aug. 17, 2024, under the guise of purchasing marijuana. Stevenson and his cohort Lavanta Carto, 28, of Algiers, got into the back seat of Davis’s car. The first of nine gunshots was fired inside the car. During the melee that followed, Davis suffered a fatal gunshot wound to his face.
Davis’s girlfriend was with him in the car. She fled for safety when the first gunshot was fired. “Every day, I carry the weight of what happened,” she wrote in a statement that was read aloud in the courtroom during Thursday’s sentencing hearing…
