NOPD: Janitor accused of stealing iPads from Mid-City school

NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — The New Orleans Police Department is trying to solve a theft case from a Mid-City school, and police say a janitor is the culprit. The case is the latest one to roll on the Wheel of Justice.

According to police, the crime happened on Thursday, Dec. 28, at the Esperanza Academy school in the 4400 block of South Carrollton Avenue. The NOPD also released surveillance video that shows a man who is identified as the suspect.

According to police, the man was hired to clean the school but stole eight iPads from a storage room. The surveillance footage shows a stairwell in the school and a man in a dark sweatshirt. He’s seen twice in the video.

Initially, the man is seen walking up the stairs with his face exposed. But minutes later, he is seen walking down the stairs with his head partially covered by the sweatshirt’s hood. Police said the man was hiding the iPads under his sweatshirt.
