Internal politics may have prompted complaints against NOPD chief, watchdog suspects

In the three months since Ann Kirkpatrick officially became New Orleans Police Superintendent, some complaints have been lodged against her.

New Orleans Metropolitan Crime Commission President Rafael Goyeneche says the complaints seem to be driven by internal politics. One was an alleged a uniform violation involving the chief’s name tag, he said, and the other was because of personnel reassignments.

Goyeneche says he does not think these complaints will slow down the work Chief Kirkpatrick is doing to lead the city’s crime fighting efforts.

“She knows one speed and that’s full speed,” said Goyeneche. “I’ve found her to act with integrity and sincerity in everything that she’s doing.”

Goyeneche said that in his meetings with the new chief, he has found her to be a more than capable leader.

“Every time I meet with her, I leave that meeting more impressed with her leadership abilities and more confident that she is the right person for the right job at the right time,” Goyeneche said.
