Louisiana Man Arrested for Murder After 2-Year-Old’s Death Linked to Fentanyl and Cocaine: Sheriff

The girl’s 1-year-old brother was also taken to the hospital but survived

The relative of a 2-year-old girl in Louisiana has been arrested for murder after she died in his care with fentanyl and cocaine in her system, according to local law enforcement.

Deputies arrived at a house in Slidell, Louisiana, after receiving a report about an unresponsive 2-year-old, according to a release from the St. Tammany’s Parish Sheriff’s Office .

The 2-year-old girl and her 1-year-old brother were both being watched by relative Christopher Baker, 31, and rushed to the hospital.

The 1-year-old was treated and released, but the 2-year-old was pronounced dead when she arrived at the hospital.

Drug paraphernalia containing drug residue was found at the house. An autopsy of the child was conducted and the toxicology report indicated fentanyl and cocaine exposure contributed to her death.

“It is incredibly sad that this innocent child died as a result of an adult’s poor decisions,”  Sheriff Randy Smith said in a statement. “Fentanyl is a very dangerous drug and even a small amount is deadly to a grown adult. My prayers go out to this family and to all families who are affected by this horrible drug.”
