Everyone needs Mardi Gras supplies, like alcohol, cash, and some king cake. But not everyone thinks they should have to pay for those items.
New Orleans Police say that philosophy resulted in a break-in and the theft of king cakes, cash, and vodka from Bittersweet Confections on Magazine St. in downtown New Orleans this week.
According to our partners at NOLA.com, police say the burglar, wearing a hoodie and surgical mask, broke in through a side door, then left with an armload of boxed king cakes, a case of Tito’s vodka, and some cash.
Bittersweet Confections owner Cheryl Scripter told NOLA that while she’s happy her king cakes seem to be in such high demand, she’d rather sell them than have them stolen.
“We’re happy to sell people king cakes. We would prefer that,” she said.
