The city of New Orleans says it is serious about not letting parade-watchers set up ladders, tents, chairs, and other gear more than four hours before parade time.
The city’s Parks and Parkways director, Michael Karam, says city workers, backed up by New Orleans Police, will begin their patrols in the early morning hours on parade routes, our partners at NOLA.com report.
NOPD declined to comment on specific plans but said the department “will continue to enforce city ordinances” while Parks and Parkways takes the lead on parade route patrols.
New Orleans City Council Vice President J.P. Morrell’s office said that enforcement needs to include confiscation of illegally-place property, or no one will take enforcement seriously.
