Popular New Orleans R&B singer Gina Brown dies at 59

NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — New Orleans singer and entertainer Gina Brown died on Wednesday, Jan. 31.

Brown’s family, who became popular leading her band Anutha Level, confirmed the “G-Slide” singer died after medical complications at Touro Hospital.

In addition to being a bandleader, Brown was also an accomplished DJ and entrepreneur.

Rain on Parades Saturday

The Treme Sidewalk Steppers held a second line in her honor Wednesday night.

State Representative Rodney Lyons posted a photo of him and Brown singing together at a community luncheon with the caption:

“I thank God for the time we had, you blessed so many people with your beautiful spirit! RIP Gina Brown, my forever friend and the singing partner! Missing you already!” said Lyons.

Councilwoman Jennifer Van Vranken also posted to social media a picture of her and Brown saying:

“I am heartbroken to learn we’ve lost an amazingly talented woman. Gina Brown used her God-given talents to sing, entertain and uplift us. I was honored to have her at my ‘Winning Women Wednesday’ event last fall. She will be missed,” said Van Vranken
