City crews clear out early birds from Uptown parade routes

NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — The crackdown along Uptown parade routes began early on Friday, Feb. 2. It frustrated the people who wanted to ensure they got a good spot.

“It’s costing the city money and it’s annoying,” said one paradegoer.

“They change the rule every year, so you never know what it’s going to be,” said Fern Kruger.

“I think it should be allowed. Why not? Who’s it hurting?” said one paradegoer.

People who staked out their positions were told to remove their items.

“Kind of think it’s a waste of time. So many other things they can do around here than worry about some people sitting on neutral ground” said a paradegoer.

“Why are they using city funds to pay for people to ride around. What’s the difference? We just want to make sure we have a spot, and I don’t think it’s taking away anything from anyone,” said Kruger.

City leaders said they do it to even the playing field, so everyone gets a fair shot at a great spot. Though, that was no consolation to the people who had to move.
