Is the New Orleans Police Department in shambles?

Is the New Orleans Police Department in shambles? Governor Jeff Landry thinks so.

And WWL’s Newell Normand found his comment to be shameful.

“The definition of shambles is a state of total disorder. It has its challenges, some of which were self inflicted,” Normand said about the department. “Many of which were inflicted by other political operatives. And the crux of what we call the consent decree is not the cause of the challenges the NOPD has.”

“That’s just a lack of leadership,” Normand noted, saying there are men and women who risk their lives every single day who don’t deserve to have their livelihood discussed like that.

NOPD has lots of men and women doing a great job, he added.

Landry blamed the federal consent decree for the ‘shambles.’ The decree has allowed the government oversight of the New Orleans Police Department since 2013.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell supported Landry after he made the comments, and she has made it well known that she also is not a fan of the federal oversight.
