Heavy rains in the city of New Orleans may cause flash flooding, and that threat has forced city leaders to allow neutral ground parking through the end of the evening.
According to a push notification sent by NOLAReady, neutral ground parking is in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday. However, because of the parades taking place this weekend, neutral ground parking on St. Charles Avenue is prohibited. In addition, officials urge drivers to avoid parking on Tchoupitoulas Street and Napoleon Avenue.
“Please don’t block intersections, streetcar tracks, sidewalks, or bike paths,” officials wrote in their message.
City leaders, citing National Weather Service forecast information, say one to two inches of rain have already fallen on New Orleans. Another inch or two of rain may drench the city before the system dropping that precipitation clears the region.
