2 high school students arrested on charges of threatening to kill schoolteacher

Two Mandeville-area high school students are accused of making threats to kill a teacher, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office says.

Deputies say the two 14-year-old girls discussed in a conversation on the social media app SnapChat bringing guns to school and shooting their teacher.

One girl said she had a Glock, and the other stated she had a pistol of her own.

Deputies issued a summons to each on a charge of terrorizing, and released them to their parentsĀ  on a custodial agreement to appear in court.

Investigators say both their homes were searched and no firearms were found.

Sheriff Randy Smith says they take this very seriously.

“We will continue to work with our schools and our law enforcement partners to investigate all threats made at our schools or to the students and faculty who attend them,” said Smith. “Parents, please talk to your children and explain the seriousness of making comments like this, even in a joking manner.”
