Arrest made in fatal shooting of Kenner 18-year-old

KENNER, La. ( WGNO ) — An arrest has been made in the investigation of a shooting that left an 18-year-old dead in Kenner on Monday, Feb. 5.

Officials with the Kenner Police Department said 18-year-old Melvin McClinton, who had been shot, was brought to a Kenner hospital in a private car.

He was later pronounced dead.

Through an investigation, KPD officers found the location of the shooting to be in the 1600 block of 42nd Street.

On Tuesday, Feb. 6, officers searched a home in the 1600 block of Newport Place in connection to the investigation.

KPD officials said they also obtained a warrant for the arrest of 19-year-old Jarrone Crimmins.

According to the KPD, “Detectives developed probable cause and established that Crimmins shot and killed McClinton on February 5, 2024.”

The KPD reported that Crimmins later surrendered himself.

Crimmins was booked and faces charges of first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault.
