When the New Orleans Pelicans acquired DeMarcus Cousins from the Sacramento Kings, they created an unstoppable tandem that took the league by storm.
Twin Towers aren’t new to the NBA, but AD and Boogie were different. These two bigs were agile, fast and could handle the ball, pass, and shoot from the outside. At that time, Davis was still starting to emerge, but Cousins was a double-double monster and was arguably one of the best centers in the league.
But Cousins suffered an Achilles injury on January 26, 2018, and missed the rest of the season. The Pelicans still finished the season with 48 wins and made the playoffs as the sixth seed. According to Anthony Davis , they would’ve gone all the way to win the championship had Boogie not gotten hurt.
“We sweep Portland first round and we go second round, lose 4-1 to Golden State but it was like…you say that what if and I know for a fu**** fact that we’re winning a chip that year. Nobody could fu** with us. Golden State was too small. Draymond could only guard one of us. And the connection me and him had?” said Davis during his appearance on D’Angelo Russell’s new podcast.
