A Slidell man is charged with animal cruelty after police say he beat and drowned a golden retriever puppy after an argument with his girlfriend.
Police say the woman came to the station Thursday to tell them her boyfriend, 19-year-old Robert Taylor, texted her and said he drowned their 10-week-old puppy.
According to police, Taylor was angry due to an on-going relationship dispute, and also claimed that the puppy bit him.
The woman said she was away from the residence when Taylor sent the text, and returned home to find the dog dead inside a toilet.
Police say Taylor taped the lid shut and weighted it down with a large cutting board in an apparent attempt to prevent the puppy’s escape.
“Inside of the home, Slidell Police found multiple strands of tape still fastened across the toilet seat lids, as well as blood,” said Daniel Suzeneau with the Slidell Police Department. “The deceased puppy also appeared to have been previously abused, as she had an injury to her eye and an apparent broken leg.”
