‘It’s a family reunion’ Krewe of NOMTOC rolls on the Westbank

ALGIERS, La. ( WGNO ) — “NOMTOC is the Mardi Gras of the Westbank. Okay!”

The Krewe of NOMTOC made its way through the streets of Algiers to a huge crowd ready for not just the beads but the bands.

Many say this is the parade they’ve anticipated all carnival season.

“We’ve got the best bands on this side. What are you talking about, what do you mean? We got Karr, we got laundry, we got many more baby,” said Brittany Wheeler.

“It’s just people having a good time and no one is worried about anything that is bad. Right now is the time to really reflect and have a good time,” said Kenyada Corley.

Like many others, NOMTOC is one of the oldest and the largest African American parades, but on the Westbank. For many the parade is like a family reunion.

“My son is actually able to play with his first cousin from my father’s side. People we don’t really have a close relationship with, so thats some of the memories. The greatest memories, being able to come out here with family and friends,” said Kimberly Nunez.
