Tourists take in Zulu Lundi Gras Festival

The Zulu King and Queen will arrive at Woldenberg Park Monday night ahead of Tuesday morning’s Zulu Parade. Revelers packed Woldenberg Park hours before the royals’ arrival to celebrate.

“The atmosphere is wide open, and it’s very welcoming. Anybody’s welcome,” said Alisha, a visitor from the Biloxi area. “For me, it’s like a family reunion or a cookout or a kickback. (There are) a lot of good vibes (and) a lot of good people.”

Mya, from Albany, Georgia, agreed with Mya’s cookout sentiment.

“Definitely, (with) the food and the alcohol,” she said, adding that saying she was looking forward to sampling the red beans and rice and a catfish po’ boy.

Cynthia Forrest is visiting from Pascagoula, Mississippi. She says she caught a bus to New Orleans Monday morning. She says she has made a bunch of new friends during her travels.

“Everybody got on the bus this morning, and we’ve been partying ever since,” Forrest said. “It’s a family vibe. Everybody’s just mingling and mixing with everybody. And even if it’s your first time meeting them, everybody’s just having fun.”
