Blakeview: Civil rights leader A.P. Tureaud was born 125 years ago this month

This month we remember New Orleans civil rights leader and attorney A.P. Tureaud, who was born 125 years ago on Feb. 26, 1899. Alexander Pierre Tureaud was born in New Orleans and educated in the city’s public schools. At age 17, he moved to Chicago, where he worked on the railroads before relocating to New York. There, he became familiar with the work of the NAACP (the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), which influenced his next career move: law school. He earned a law degree from Howard University in 1925.
