Severe Thunderstorms Developing Across Parts of Coastal Louisiana & Florida

Severe Storms Slowly Heading Ashore With Waterspout Risk

09/06/24 12:45pm ET

Good afternoon everyone. As stated in this morning’s article, we needed to watch coastal areas of the Gulf of Mexico across parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida today for embedded severe weather with this tropical energy.

Unfortunately, the action is looking more widespread than previously forecasted, with numerous strong to severe storms slowly making their way across cental & southeast coastal Louisiana, and the Florida panhnadle.

In both areas, we have special marine warnings that may eventually become severe thunderstorm warnings on land. These storms in both Louisiana and Florida coastal sections, have a history of strong winds, torrential rain, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, and the substantial risk of waterspouts.

We also cannot forget the risk of severe weather in the Ohio River Valley & Northeast this afternoon and evening. We are expecting a broken line of strong to severe weather to form across parts of western New York, western Pennsylvania, Ohio, and down into Kentucky & West Virginia.
