Food banks see an uptick in requests for help after Hurricane Francine

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -Even before Hurricane Francine hit south Louisiana last week, Second Harvest Food Bank was already busy helping those in need ahead of the storm. “We saw, first of all, people getting ready in Lafayette when we helped them set up a shelter there and worked with the fire department to make sure that people that were unhoused had access to food. Then the storm came through, and so many people did not have power, and so they couldn’t cook, and we were called upon to do meals,” said Natalie Jayroe, President and CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank.
