NOPD: Teen escapes from jail; carjacks person in Gentilly

A teen who escaped from the New Orleans Juvenile Justice Intervention Center is accused of carjacking a person in Gentilly on Monday afternoon, and police are asking for the public’s help to find him.

According to a New Orleans Police Department spokesperson, Carlos Taylor escaped from the juvenile penitentiary on Monday. He was arrested last Friday on several guns charges, including aggravated assault, illegal possession, and criminal damage to property. Police issued a “be on the look out” warning around 2:15 p.m.

Police say Taylor, 17, committed the unarmed carjacking minutes before authorities issued the lookout warning. Investigators say Taylor stole a 2012 Toyota Camry from Florida Avenue near the LSU School of Dentistry. That car is light blue in color and has Mississippi license plate 1MUSIC1.

If you know where Taylor is or see the stolen car, call the NOPD at 504-658-5300 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
