In December 2019, domestic violence victims’ advocates were invited by Orleans Parish Council members Helena Moreno and Jason Williams to comment on raw data it collected concluding that Orleans Parish District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro had dropped 83% of domestic abuse battery cases in 2018. As an attorney and advocate, I was shocked by the statistics and regrettably publicly criticized the DA’s decision to drop these charges before the council.
