‘An open wound’: 5 years after Hard Rock collapse, families grieve as lawsuits remain in limbo

Angela Magrette has been on a five-year mission to keep the memory of her twin brother alive. On the morning of Oct. 12, 2019, Anthony Magrette, a construction worker who lived with his sister in Terrytown, arrived at the construction site of the Hard Rock Hotel, the 18-story monolith rising on the corner of Canal and Rampart streets. He headed to the upper floors, and soon after, according to regulatory reports, building supports gave way under the weight of the concrete above.
