The Two Years Snow Fell in Louisiana on Christmas Day

Just about everyone in Louisiana dreams of a white Christmas, and the chances of that ever happening are slim to none.

Let’s face it, if you live in the Deep South you may never see snow on Christmas morning, thus if you hope ever to experience snow on December 25th, you will likely have to make a long drive north.

Still, that doesn’t mean snow will never fall in Louisiana on Christmas Day, it has fallen twice in the Bayou State after Santa placed the gifts under the tree.

I was recently tuned into a weather forecast on News 15 and the forecaster mentioned a date when snow fell in Louisiana, which I was unaware of. I recall reports of snow flurries in New Orleans on Christmas Day in 2004, but I was now aware of another date.

According to the forecast and report on News 15, snow also fell in Louisiana on December 25th in Shreveport in 1929. About a half inch of snow was present on Christmas Day in North Louisiana on that day, and I doubt that they’ll see that again this year.

So yes, it has snowed in Louisiana on Christmas Day and if you’re wondering what the forecast is for Christmas in Louisiana in 20024, well it’s going to be warm. You can put the gumbo pots away and be prepared to turn down the air conditioner as you prepare to unwrap gifts.
