NOPD: Carjacker steals car with child inside

A child who was kidnapped during an Algiers carjacking has been found safe.

It happened around 10:45 p.m. Friday on Michael Street about two blocks north of General Meyer Avenue.

According to the New Orleans Police Department’s major offense log, the victim and her child were sitting inside a car in front of their home when the suspect knocked on the car’s window and pulled a gun. The suspect demanded money and ordered the woman out of her vehicle. The suspect then got into the car and drove away with the child still in the back seat.

Police later found the vehicle. The child was still inside and was unharmed. The suspect, however, had run away from the scene.
