Judge gives double-life sentence to Westwego man for execution-style double murder

WESTWEGO, La. – A Jefferson Parish judge handed down a double-life sentence to a man convicted of fatally shooting two people in Westwego last January. Jefferson Parish District Attorney Paul Connick Jr. announced that Gerald “Bird” Barker, 37, received consecutive life sentences on December 18 for the 2023 murders of Linda Turner, 68, and Curtis Thomas, 51, in Westwego. Barker fatally shot the victims inside Turner’s Emile Avenue home, where he sometimes sold crack cocaine said the D.A.
