New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell and other officials urged city residents to grab any last-minute supplies and prepare to shelter indoors as a blistering cold front took aim at the metro area.
Temperatures by Monday had already plummeted to the low 30s on the south shore, a far cry from the warmer weekend temperatures, causing cancellations of several events planned for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Larger temperature drops, and likely ice and snow, were expected overnight Monday and into Tuesday as a wintry mix moved through the region.
