New Orleans Police Report Sharp Decline in Gun Arrests and Seizures in March 2025

The New Orleans Police Department has released its preliminary crime statistics for the week of March 16-22, revealing a notable decrease in gun-related arrests and seizures. Compared to the same period in the previous year, the NOPD has seen a sharp decline in both categories. Gun arrests, which concern violations under LA RS 14:95 and its sub-items, fell by 54 percent from 186 in 2024 to just 86 arrests year to date.

The NOPD’s efforts to confiscate firearms in criminal investigations have seen a 42-percent decrease, indicating a reduction in their impact, having seized 398 firearms as of today, down from 685 in the corresponding period last year…
