NEW ORLEANS — Constable Edwin M. Shorty, Jr. has announced his candidacy for Orleans Parish Sheriff, citing his commitment to public service and criminal justice reform.
Shorty, a New Orleans native, has served as Constable of Second City Court in Algiers since 2013. His career in law enforcement began as a Deputy Sheriff with the Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff’s Office before he became an attorney specializing in bankruptcy and personal injury law.
With more than 20 years of legal and public service experience, Shorty has also held leadership roles within the Southern University System, where he was appointed to the Board of Supervisors by former Gov. John Bel Edwards in 2019 and later elected chairman in 2022…
