Another round of storms: Monday morning commute could be messy

BATON ROUGE — After heavy rain and flooding on Saturday, the Capital Region is preparing for another round of storms early next week.

The National Weather Service is forecasting strong to severe storms from early Monday morning through approximately 1 p.m.

“The morning commute could be a mess for the Red Stick,” State Climatologist Jay Grymes said Sunday. “The main threats will be wind damage, but a rogue tornado can’t be ruled out.” Grymes added that HRRR model guidance indicates a well-developed storm cluster could lead to multiple severe weather warnings throughout Monday morning.

Storm Forecast & Threats

NWS meteorologists predict heavy rain and thunderstorms across the region. The primary hazards include:

  • Damaging wind gusts exceeding 60 mph
  • Hail up to 1 inch in diameter or larger
  • Isolated tornadoes (though the risk is low)

The Baton Rouge and New Orleans metro areas are under a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather on Monday.
