ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) – An investigation into a hit-and-run in Alexandria led to an arrest connected to a homicide case in New Orleans.
According to the Alexandria Police Department, their investigation into a hit-and-run raised suspicions of it being connected to a homicide.
APD worked with the New Orleans Police Department, a partnership they said led to the discovery of a body in the 4200 block of Royal Street in New Orleans. NOPD confirmed the identity as that of Michael Craig Hankins, 61.
On Friday, March 28, APD, in conjunction with NOPD homicide detectives and the Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Alexandria Field Office, processed Hankins’ vehicle and recovered evidence.
APD said the suspect, identified as Trevor Delrie, 18, was later located in Grant Parish, where he was taken into custody by the parish sheriff’s office and booked for second-degree murder. He will be transferred back to New Orleans.
