The Jefferson Parish Council on Wednesday denied a $49 million affordable housing project in Marrero over neighbors’ concerns it would harm their quality of life.
The council unanimously voted down the workforce housing apartment complex, called the Reserve at Lapalco, after a flood of speakers expressed opposition to the development for 30 minutes as they crowded the chamber.
Residents complained that the project would decrease home values and increase crime and traffic in the area, and said the developer has lacked transparency with the project’s specifics. They cited a petition with over 1,000 signatures against the project, and hoisted “vote no” signs …
