Anne Babst, 85, walked past antique bookshelves and a table blanketed in tea towels to enter a small, screen-covered cat adoption room on Thursday.
She staggered to a bench, eased herself down, and sprinkled dry cat treats across her lap. A clowder of cats, some elderly and some disabled, rushed to greet her with meows and purrs.
