Big Easy Wing, the New Orleans Commemorative Air Force unit, is helping reconnect six British servicemen from World War II with their families and countrymen by sending home rubbings from their local tombstones.
Five of the soldiers are buried in Greenwood Cemetery in New Orleans, and one is buried in Chalmette National Cemetery.
The six are among 423 British servicemen who were killed while training in the U.S. and buried on American soil during World War II.
Rubbings of their gravestones, along with rubbings made from other burial sites across America, will be transported to the U.K. for a homecoming event celebrating Victory in Europe Day on May 8…
